Miyako Old Fashion Ice Cream: Reviews & Ratings
I visited recently and was pleased to see so many ice cream options. He sells lots of awesome candy that I haven't seen in years. He also offered ice cream samples. He is a very nice person and great to talk to. Be sure to bring cash. Will be back soon to continue supporting a Black business owner.
The shop is run by a very sweet older man, I enjoy every visit. It really feels like a shop you could have been to in the 80s. The menu online is often inaccurate and the hours fluctuate slightly around open and closing times, but I definitely recommend it. Remember to bring cash, it's cash only. The prices have gone up quite a bit but they definitely needed to, I'm sure they were too cheap to make a living before. Current flavors on my last visit, if the menu isn't accurate: Chocolate, vanilla, chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, strawberry, rocky road, cookies and cream, grasshopper, mocha fudge, lucuma, macapuno, rum raisin, butter pecan, black walnut, caramel praline, New York cherry, rainbow sherbet, green tea, avocado and what looked like ube (it was unlabeled).
Owner is super kind and allows you to sample flavors. Definitely recommend this ice cream spot, there’s a variety of flavors and they’re delicious. 10/10 mom and pop vibe. Cash-only payments accepted.
This is a historical landmark and place, in its own right, as this is a family run business, long standing, in the community and they've kept the prices low and competitive! The sandwiches and ice cream cones are crafted with love, as the original owner is still active, serving flavorful ice cream cones to his patrons and crafting those delicious sandwiches. You have to stop by and treat yourself to a cone, of one of the owner's various selections of flavors, including specialty flavors. Or maybe you would like one of his delicious sandwiches, including hot pastrami, with nacho chips and your choice of potato salad or cole slaw. I recommend the slaw: it's delicious. All for a REMARKABLE price.
Cash only. $5 for double scoop: banana and lucuma (Peruvian fruit) were really good! Great value! I doubt you’ll get this much good quality ice cream for this price at any other ice cream shop in this area. But aluminum foil seems unnecessarily wasteful. Sampled a couple other flavors. I was very disappointed in ube. Jamaican fudge(?) was way too sweet. Can’t remember the other ones I sampled because it’s been a few days and they just didn’t leave much of an impression. It’s a little dark and smelly inside the shop, but it was nice to enjoy the ice cream after walking to a nicer part of the city.
Mr. Tom is so kind and welcoming. The ice cream is delicious and brought back so many childhood memories. I’ll definitely be back; I just wish more people knew about this hidden gem
Visited this old school ice cream shop for the first time today. I chatted with the owner Tom who’s so sweet and generous! He gave me 2 huge generous scoops of ice cream and I was surprised to find out that it was only $5! Can’t get these prices elsewhere in the city! You can see how much love and care he puts into the shop with all the homey touches. I’ll be sure to stop by and say hi to Tom again!
We stopped by on a whim, and the ice cream was delicious, but the kindness was unforgettable. The seller was incredibly warm and encouraged us to try flavors while my daughter decided. When we finally chose, I noticed the sign said cash only… and of course I had no cash. I apologized and stepped aside to let others go first, planning to come back another day. He wouldn’t hear of it. He scooped three generous scoops for my daughter on the house. We’re coming back tomorrow to pay, but more importantly, to support a place run by a truly good human. Amazing ice cream, even better heart.
